About Mill Creek Ranch

Mill Creek Ranch is located at the north edge of the Flint Hills near
Alma, Kansas and consists of nearly 5,000 acres of owned and leased native bluestem pastures and brome grass.

The first Mill Creek Hereford cattle were purchased in the spring of 1972
and featured Mark Donald and Line 1 pedigrees. Over the past 28 years, it has been our main goal to provide our customers with cattle that excel in many areas, including performance, eye appeal, maternal ability, udder quality, and carcass merit. The Mark Donald / Line 1 cross has been beneficial in obtaining these goals... to produce sound, thick, high-performing seedstock for the commercial and registered breeder. We market our Hereford cattle through private treaty bull and heifer sales, as well as select consignment sales and bull test programs. 2005 will mark the return of our Kansas production sale, an event that will showcase the exciting advancements that are taking place now on the ranch.

The Angus herd was started in 1948 by the late Vic and Sally Breiner, under the name "Hillsdale Angus Farm," at Norton, Kansas. The foundation bloodlines of the Hillsdale Angus Farm herd were Santella, Eileenmere, Ankonian, and Emulous. The cows were moved to Mill Creek in the early 1990s. Dave's folks developed a very functional cowherd based on fertility, calving ease, maternal excellence and doability. This foundation gave Mill Creek an excellent start on providing our customers with cattle that meet everyone's needs.

A select few Gelbvieh cows were added in 1985 from the Mr. Red family line, originating from Arrow S Ranch of Alma, KS. Since then, we have
utilized the breed's most noted performance sires that have aided in our selection criteria for udder quality, moderate birth weights, and high performance. We believe that this breed will serve as an complementary cross for our commercial customers to use as a source for added growth. Recently, a large majority of these Gelbvieh cows have been mated to noted Angus and Red Angus sires, a move that we feel emphasizes the positive traits of each breed.

In 1996, Bob Moore of Pied Piper Farms, Hamlin, Texas, became a partner in the Mill Creek Cow Herd. This move was made to enable both Pied Piper and Mill Creek the opportunity to expand cowherd numbers and annually market a large number of bulls and heifers to our customers.

Since it's inception, Dave, Diane and their family have been a part of Mill Creek Ranch. Chad is a graduate of Kansas State University with a degree in Animal Science and is the Mill Creek Cow Herd Manager. His wife Callea, is a nurse practitioner at Stormont Vail Healthcare in Topeka.
